Sarah Silverman Chooses Career and “Fullest Life” Over Having Kids
Sarah Silverman has made her decision not to have kids public. The comedian made her announcement on social media via twitter. She explained her position on having to choose and wanting to have her ” fullest life” over a life with children.
Her tweet read, “As a comic always working & on the road I have had to decide between motherhood & living my fullest life & I chose the latter.”
46-year-old Silverman does stand-up comedy, writing, acting, and producing in the U.S. She’s had roles in movies such as “There’s Something About Mary”, “School of Rock”, and “A Million Ways to Die in the West”. Known for her bold and sarcastic take on realistic social issues, the comedian often incorporates events from her personal life in her skits.
This isn’t the first time she’s aired out her laundry on and off social media. She’s shared about her battle with depression, her views on the institution of marriage, and her disdain with certain political interference.
Silverman received some backlash from fans after comparing role differences between moms and dads, stating “Men don’t have to do that. I’d so love to be a fun dad, coming home from the road & being my best fun dad self”. She continued adding, “So this is just a lil f-k all y’all bc u can’t be a woman w/out sacrifice & that’s the fact jack.”
Men took offense and didn’t mind voicing their feelings, disputing her views that men don’t have to sacrifice and stating her opinions were outdated. One fan tweeted, “I’m a fan but you jumped the shark with that 1950s stereotype. Wake up and look around. PEOPLE sacrifice. Moms and Dads.”
Another fan replied, “Unlike self-serving men like me, working 40-60 hrs/wk to feed & clothe our families. You’re so blinded by your own biases.”
Silverman also caught the attention of columnist, Ada Slivinski, who tweeted that motherhood filled her life in ways a career alone never could. It didn’t stop there, as Silverman responded her statements were only about her life and female comedians like her.
The two-time Emmy Award winner was in an on-again-off-again relationship with Jimmy Kimmel from 2003-2009. She even appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show in 2013 carrying along a box of his things to return to him. The two were comfortable enough to discuss her new relationship during the show.
Kimmel has since remarried to writer and producer Molly McNearney, who is also co-head writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The two have one child and are expecting another this year. Kimmel also has two children from a previous marriage to his high school sweetheart.
Silverman currently dates Michael Sheen, and has dated him since 2014 when she once again used social media to announce her disgust with the institution of marriage. She tweeted, “Why would I want the govt involved in my love life? Ew. It’s barbaric.”
Guess that’s just another example of her idea of the “fullest life”.
